RJI has a long history of supporting victims of abuse, particularly clergy abuse, and encouraging the use of victims-driven and centered restorative justice.
The following is our submission:
Restorative Justice International (RJI) supports the use of restorative justice in all cases of clergy abuse. We support direct victim offender dialogue when possible to ensure that offenders are held accountable. Victims must be the ones who choose to participate in restorative justice. This reflects RJI’s support for victims-driven restorative justice. If direct victim offender meetings are not possible there are other processes that are restorative that we support. RJI supports monetary restitution to victims of abuse to be paid primarily by the offender and/or institutions affiliated with the offender. RJI is available to assist victims of abuse as they explore restorative justice and its benefits.
