RJI Statement on Ukraine: Need for Restorative Justice-March 7, 2022

March 7, 2022 11:30am Pacific
Restorative Justice International (RJI) supports the sovereignty of nations. When there is conflict of any kind between people or nations, RJI supports the use of restorative justice principles in response to those conflicts. Through restorative justice processes dialogue is possible and is urged. In order to participate in a restorative justice dialogue first there must be an absence of violence or threat of violence between participants, including nations.
Nations are encouraged to use restorative justice principles whenever there is a threat to their sovereignty. Peace is possible through restorative justice. Through the use of restorative justice the needs of the victims of violence, or the families of victims, will not be ignored. RJI urges Ukraine and Russia to engage in restorative justice principles at this hour.
RJI is an association and network of over 6900 members and affiliates founded in 2008 with a Global Advisory Council with representatives from 12 countries. RJI’s mission is to support victims-driven restorative justice in ways that restore victims of violence, as much as possible, urge offender accountability, and restore peace to communities torn by violence and crime.
