Restorative Justice International (RJI) congratulates U.S. President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris for their clear victory on election day. “The election of Biden and Harris ends the disastrous reign of the Trump administration and its effect on our democracy. The nation’s decision to elect President-Elect Joe Biden shows its hunger to leave the politics of hatred and division behind and embrace decency, restoration and healing,” said Lisa Rea, President, Restorative Justice International.  “No where do we need more healing, with accountability, than in the U.S. criminal justice system in need of  justice reform based on restorative justice principles,” she said.

Restorative Justice International is a national and global association and network with 6100 members and affiliates committed to victims-driven restorative justice. RJI is an advocate and global leader supporting public policies based on restorative justice which stresses restoring and healing crime victims, holding offenders accountable by transforming their lives, and bringing peace to communities also injured by crime and violence. RJI’s work is guided by its esteemed Global Advisory Council with representatives from 12 countries.

RJI’s public policy agenda includes working on behalf of those wrongfully convicted to bring accountability to the justice system and healing to those found innocent. RJI also advocates for the use of restorative policing as a new model needed to change the way law enforcement responds to crime and to de-escalate potential violent encounters with community members.

RJI’s President Lisa Rea issued a strong endorsement of the Biden/Harris ticket before election day:
