RJI Podcast with Dan Van Ness, Restorative Justice Pioneer (June 2017)

Dan Van Ness has been involved with restorative justice for over 35 years, first with Prison Fellowship (USA), where he worked for 12 years and, since 1996, with Prison Fellowship International, an association of national NGOs in 120 countries.  He led the design team that created the Sycamore Tree Project®, a victim-offender awareness program now running in prisons in 34 countries. He was principal architect of the UN Declaration of Basic Principles on the Use of Restorative Justice Programmes in Criminal Matters, adopted in 2002. Dan has written and edited several books, including Restoring Justice: An Introduction to Restorative Justice, 5th Edition (co-authored with Karen Strong); The Handbook of Restorative Justice (co-edited with Gerry Johnstone), and the award winning Crime and Its Victims. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Restorative Justice: An International Journal.
RJI honors the contribution Dan has made to the restorative movement. We thank him for joining us on the RJI Podcast and hope to do future interviews with him. This is Lisa Rea for RJI.
