Restorative Justice: Regional Forum on Youth Crime & Violence in Guyana

As is true around the world interest in restorative justice grows as justice systems grapple with crime and seek better ways to respond to it. From Caricom Today, RJI shares this news from a youth forum in Georgetown, Guyana. Key stakeholders consider ways of using restorative justice in response to youth crime.

RJI supports victims-driven restorative justice which stresses the need for offender accountability and the importance of healing of crime victims, as much as possible, and communities as well since they, too, are injured after crime. Restorative justice is far more than an alternative to incarceration but instead a set of principles that drives systemic reform of our justice systems.
