Global Advisory Council Meets to Discuss Ukraine & Restorative Justice-March 17, 2022

The following is a meeting of RJI’s Global Advisory Council (GAC) which convened virtually on March 17, 2022 at 8:00am Pacific. The topic for discussion was Ukraine, and restorative justice as the way forward towards peace. Participants included the following: Dr. Upneet Lalli (India), Professor Don John Omale (Nigeria), Austin Stack (Ireland), Dr. Jane Bolitho (New Zealand), Peter B. Collins (California, U.S.), Ray & Vi Donovan (UK), with Lisa Rea, RJI President, moderating.

The virtual meeting followed RJI’s statement on Ukraine and restorative justice issued on March 7, 2022:

Discussion from the GAC meeting included the importance of the use of restorative justice principles during times of war, restorative diplomacy, speaking truth to power, safe spaces for victims/survivors, and the need for global negotiators trained in restorative justice. The GAC meeting lasted approximately 1: 2o minutes.

    In my country, we say after the reggae play the blues! After the Russia/Ukraine war, there must be healing. Any post war reconciliation and reconstruction should include the restorative justice principles, for sustainable peace.
