Azim Khamisa Podcast: Father Supports Young Man Who Killed His Son (San Diego, U.S.) Feb. 8, 2019
Today’s podcast is with Azim Khamisa, whose 20-year old son was killed by gang member Tony Hicks in San Diego, California in 1995. Azim’s son, Tariq, was 20 years old. Tony Hicks, the offender, was 14 years old. Hicks was tried as an adult and received a 25-year prison sentence.
Azim chose to forgive Tony Hicks and with Tony’s grandfather, Ples Felix, in a spirit of healing and reconciliation formed the Tariq Khamisa Foundation. RJI talks to Azim about his faith journey, his support for restorative justice and the intensive work with youth through the foundation. Azim explains why he, and his daughter, support Tony Hick’s parole which is now pending in the state of California. Hick’s was found suitable for parole on November 28, 2018 but his parole must also be supported by California’s Governor Gavin Newsom.
The Tariq Khamisa Foundation can be found at www.tkf.org and Azim’s website at www.azimkhamisa.com. RJI is honored to tell the story of Azim Khamisa. We remember the life of Tariq as we share this podcast.
