Reforming the Prosecution System: October 26, Davis, California (Event)
The Davis Vanguard (& Vanguard Court Watch) will host a forum on October 26, 2019 on Reforming the Prosecution System. RJI’s president and founder Lisa Rea will be speaking with Jeffrey Deskovic and other national speakers who are working to reform the prosecution system and make it more accountable.
Ms. Rea will speak about the work of RJI in advocating for systemic justice reform based on restorative justice and its work on wrongful convictions. She will also introduce her colleague Mr. Deskovic who sits on RJI’s Global Advisory Council. Deskovic was convicted as an innocent young man at the age of 17. He spent 16 years serving time in a New York prison for crimes he did not commit. Our podcast with Deskovic from 2018: http://www.restorativejusticeinternational.com/2018/jeffrey-deskovic-podcast-convicted-exonerated-reforming-the-justice-system-new-york-june-21-2018/
RJI worked with the Deskovic Foundation, and others, in support of New York legislation in 2018 creating a prosecutorial conduct commission which was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The commission’s status at this time is pending.
The October event is open to the public but tickets are needed. Contact the Davis Vanguard:
